flooring West Yorkshire since 1920...

On Saturday the 3rd of September 1938 a fire at the premises of Harry Lund Ltd, Prospect Works, Leeds Road, Otley, destroyed 15 lorries, some machinery and a large stock of spares. Harry Lund was an agent for the R.E.O. Motor Company, famous for its REO Speedwagon & it is believed that several REO vehicles were destroyed in the fire.

Harry Lund was often asked for carpet cleaning by customers who were moving house and decided to expand into carpet cleaning.

Later on, with the increased popularity of fitted carpets the company expanded into selling carpets.

Lunds had a carpet shop in Gay Lane, Otley and also Leeds Road in Ilkley.

After Harry Lund's death in 1965 the business was carried on by Kenneth Pickard who had originally started as a van lad with Harry Lund. At this point the removals business was sold to Coates & Campbell and the haulage business to the Kenrick group. The company continued as both carpet cleaners and carpet retailers with the shop located in Manor Square, Otley.

The present owners purchased the business in 1974 upon the retirement of Ken Pickard and for some

time continued the carpet cleaning business.

Carpet cleaning was discontinued in the 90’s and the company now concentrates on Carpets and floor-coverings.

The company moved from Courthouse Street to its present site at Westgate, in 1987 after a total refurbishment of the premises formally known as Manor garage & prior to that the Wharfedale garage Co.

The company is recognised as one of the premier carpet and floor-covering specialists with a strong focus on service, reliability and value for money.
